A sharp pain in the chest cavity is more often than not connected with a cardiac arrest. Leave aside experiencing it yourself; even if you hear or observe someone having the same, you imagine a heart linked ailment. One cannot refute the fact that an intense pain in the chest could certainly be an indication of several problems linked to the heart such as cardiac arrest, angina, aortic dissection, spasm of the coronary arteries and pericarditis, or swelling around the heart.

A heart burn makes one experience pain in the chest combined with a sensation of nausea. The medical condition of pleurisy is characterized by inflammation in the lining of the chest cavity which results in pain in the region. Such a pain tends to escalate with cough or deep breathing. The symptoms of both, a panic attack and castochondritis closely resemble a heart attack. While in the former case, chest pain is accompanied by profuse perspiration, breathlessness and destabilized heart rhythm; in the latter condition the cartilage tissue surrounding the ribcage inflames causing severe pain in the area similar to that during a cardiac arrest.

Well, even if one knows that a chest pain may not always indicate a heart problem; it is still important to get it analyzed and hear the same from a doctor.
