Although numerous cases of breast cancer are detected when the person notices a visible lump in one or both the breasts, these days, there is an increasing incidence of breast cancer developing inside the tissue without the formation of characteristic lumps. These types of breast cancers are known as inflammatory breast cancer or IBC.

The difficulty in treating this type of cancer is the difficulty to detect the growth of cancerous cells in the first place. However, being aware of the symptoms associated with IBC will go a long way in treating the disease condition, increasing the survival rate percentage tremendously.

Listed below are common symptoms associated with IBC:

• Changes in the nipple should be a cause of concern. If it suddenly appears flattened or inverted, it is better to get yourself examined.
• A liquid or pus like discharge from the nipples is direct indication of something not right within the breast tissue.
• A sudden increase in size of one breast while the other remains normal should not be ignored.

Other symptoms include:

• Redness, pain, swelling, itching and inflammation of breasts that is persistent and irritating.
• Presence of bruises in the breast region
• The breasts feel unusually hot or warm
• Textured or pores like appearance on one or both the breasts making it look more like an orange peel
• Change of areola color

If you observe any of the above symptoms get yourself examined immediately. Chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, radiation therapy and/or surgery are generally applied to treat the condition.
