Benign Breast Lump Tumor

Observing a tumor in the breast is a cause of concern for millions of women world over. However, it is very important to understand that not all tumors lead to cancer. Benign tumors are formed when there is an excessive multiplication of cells in the region. These tumors do not move around different parts of the body. Instead, they stay in one place, can be easily detected and removed by applying specific scientific procedures. These tumors do not give rise to breast cancer. Cancerous tumors, on the other hand, spread to different parts of the body and can result in breast cancer.

Tumors are generally caused due to genetic defects or changes in the genome of the cell. This forces the cells to multiply at a very rapid rate than they should normally do, giving rise to lumps. Most of breast tumor cases turn out to be benign in origin. A monthly physical examination to check for any unusual bumps in breasts is highly recommended to detect the presence of unwanted tumors in the body and receive timely treatment.

There are many techniques to find out the type and origin of tumor formed in the body. Generally, a biopsy is performed to confirm the type of tumor (malignant or benign). In older women, mammograms are performed to check for the presence or absence of tumors. There are different types of benign tumors, namely fibroadenomas, phyllodes tumors, papillomas and granular cell tumors. Although these tumors are generally harmless, they can cause pain, irritation and discomfort in the region. Lumpectomy is usually used to remove benign tumors.
