Abdominal pain can be mild, moderate or severe. In most cases, the pain disappears on its own and does not require any special medical treatments. If the person is suffering from prolonged incidences of abdominal pain, he/she has to undergo immediate medical examination to find the root cause and treat the condition. Acute or chronic abdominal pain is a cause of concern and should not be neglected.
Numerous organs like the kidneys, pancreas, gall bladder, stomach and liver are located in the abdominal religion. Any malfunctioning, disease, damage, disorder or injury to any of these organs will directly cause abdominal pain.
Indigestion, lung problems, acidity and hernia can specifically cause upper abdominal pain (towards the chest region). Although the condition is not very serious, if you suffer from a sudden excruciating pain, you should immediately consult a doctor and get the required treatment.
Indigestion causes build up of gases in the region leading to pain. Irritation, burning sensation, heartburns and acid reflux are common symptoms. Generally, the problem disappears on its own without requiring any specific medical treatments. If the cause is due to ulcers, then the person should consume appropriate medications and follow the prescribed diet pattern to prevent aggravation of the condition. Antacids are greatly useful in relieving acidity, in turn relieving upper abdominal pain. Indigestion can also occur during pregnancy. The pressure put forth by the growing fetus coupled with relaxation of the digestive tract muscles leads to inefficient digestion of food causing heartburn and upper abdominal pain.
In some cases, people who consume antibiotics or medicines for a stipulated period of time will also complain about upper abdominal pain. Steroids, aspirin, anti viral medicines, etc. are known to cause upper abdominal pain and indigestion.
