A large section of the population are affected by heart diseases the world over. An underlying disease condition can be coupled with other symptoms leading to a combination of factors, making it difficult to pin point one particular reason for heart ailment.

• Discomfort or pain in the chest is the most common symptom observed by a majority of the affected individuals. This is one of the early signs of heart diseases and is therefore easier to diagnose and treat. A sudden sharp stinging pain in the chest leading to difficulty in breathing is a cause of concern and should not be neglected. People suffering from heart diseases can also complain of numbness, pressure, congestion of the lungs and choking. However, the pain need not be limited to the chest region alone. Any stiffness or pain in the neck, jaw, left hand and upper abdomen can also indicate the presence of a heart ailment.
• The person may also complain of lightheadedness or dizziness. However, this symptom can be observed in numerous other health related disorders like kidney failures, anemia, viral infections, liver disorders, any damage or degenerative changes in the neurological system, blood related disorders, etc. Therefore, dizziness cannot be a sole criterion for diagnosing a heart ailment but should not be ignored. In some cases, the person might lose consciousness and faint.
• Excessive sweating and an abnormal heart rate or heartbeat per minute can indicate a heart ailment.
