H1N1 or swine flu symptoms can be treated and cured if diagnosed early. Children, pregnant and lactating women and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to the disease. These symptoms are often similar to common flu but should not be neglected.
Persistent cough and sneezing in babies should be a cause of concern. If the baby becomes irritated and crabby for no apparent reason, he/she could be suffering from swine flu. Toddlers on the other hand become lethargic, dull and tired. Fever, vomiting and diarrhea are also observed. Sore throat accompanied with severe pain and change in voice are seen in younger children. Babies and toddlers have a decreased immune maturation levels and are therefore not fully equipped to deal with flu or any mild disease. The condition can worsen very quickly if neglected.
In older children, swine flu may cause fever, sore throats and runny nose. Cough and body pain is often accompanied with headaches and tiredness. Diarrhea and vomiting are also observed. If you notice the child’s skin truing blue due to difficulty in breathing, immediate medical attention is necessary.
In adults, the symptoms are limited to fever, sore throats and extreme pressure or pain in the chest. Vomiting and shortness of breath along with dizziness and confusion is a serious cause of concern. Pneumonia is also observed in extreme cases. However, it is important to note that not all adults suffer from fever or stomach upset.
Persistent vomiting and diarrhea can cause dehydration due to severe loss of fluids in all age groups. Regular intake of fluids with electrolytes is crucial to prevent coma. Prompt treatment with antibiotics will help in treating the symptoms.
