Stillbirth means that a baby was born without life. It is very difficult to spell the word death when it comes to a baby. Every mother or parents would have had great plans and expectations for the baby that was to be born. However, experiencing a stillbirth is the worst thing that can happen to any parent.

Actually there are no known causes as to why stillbirths happen. A stillbirth can occur any time after the twentieth week of pregnancy. It could be due to natural causes but then what exactly triggers the delivery is an enigma even for experts today. Stillbirth is known as IUFD, or Intra Uterine Fetal Death, in medical terms. It is a scary term and no expectant parent wants to hear of it actually.

There can be several causes for stillbirth, but none of them hold proof. If a pregnant mother has diabetes, then it could have been one of the causes of stillbirth. Diabetes is a degenerative disease and could have caused hindrances in the pregnancy. A hemorrhage of some kind could have caused the baby to be born before time. Sometimes, infections occur within the fetus, for example Syphilis. The fetus is too delicate to survive such an infection and that could have caused the stillbirth.

In a stillbirth, the mother experiences normal labor pains and the baby is forced out of the womb. A stillbirth is a natural body reaction actually. If the baby was alive, then it would have been called a premature delivery.
