Is Bleeding During Second Trimester Normal

Pregnancy is a delicate condition that lasts for nine months. As long as the baby is in the womb it is a delicate period for both the mother and the baby. When women see blood or blood spots during their pregnancy, they get scared. Yes, it is a scary thought because it could be the first sign of an abortion that is taking place in your womb.

When the fetus is no longer alive, the first sign comes in the form of vaginal bleeding. That means the blood that is protecting the baby in the womb is now coming out. Whether it is normal to bleed at all during the 2nd trimester is something that the doctor will determine. It depends on the circumstances. Actually bleeding at any time during the pregnancy is not at all normal. It does indicate a problem, but it may not always be the worse case scenario like an abortion. There could be several reasons why the bleeding occurs, like some blood vessels would rupture or the uterus walls or hurt or just any reason like that.

When bleeding occurs in the second trimester, the first thing a doctor does is to check the baby’s movements. They will do a manual vaginal test and see if the baby is alright. The doctor can feel the baby through an internal examination. If need be, they will also take an ultrasound scan. More often than not when you notice some light bleeding like blood spots, it is because of some issues with the cervix. The blood vessels could have burst when the cervix was stretched. The cervix also adjusts itself and prepares itself for the birth of the baby.
