Hormones During First Trimester

The first thing that happens to a woman’s body during pregnancy is that the hormones levels change. The baby needs certain hormones in the mother’s body for its very survival. Hormones like estrogen and progesterone automatically shoot up in the first trimester. These hormonal changes within the woman’s body are positive changes.

Progesterone is a hormone which promotes lactation, gives the baby nutrition by lining the uterus walls and it also protects the baby. It is very crucial for the growth of the fetus. It also stops menstruation or any harm occurring to the baby. Such hormonal changes are actually the life giving threads. Estrogen also becomes higher when the woman’s body goes through changes.

Also, for the body to prepare itself for the process of child birth such hormonal changes are essential. They control ovulation while one fertilized egg is growing into a fetus and then a baby inside the mother’s womb. Hormonal levels in the first trimester also indicate the health of the womb. If a woman’s body is preparing for the child birth and the womb is in a position to hold the baby, then the hormonal levels will automatically indicate it.

The first trimester lasts for three months, but the body continues to go through these hormonal changes even after that. There are two main hormones which control the entire process of pregnancy and child birth and they are estrogen and progesterone. There other hormones also that play a role and even they could be the reason to cause mood changes when the woman is pregnant.
