A cesarean childbirth means the child has to be delivered through a surgery. In nature, the child would be born through a vaginal child birth for a woman. The labor pains would occur naturally and the child will push itself through the birth canal. However, in a C section the child is delivered when the doctors cut open the womb of the pregnant woman and take the child out with their hands.

C section surgery was invented by the Romans during the rule of Cesar and that is why it is called Cesarean section. It is believed that Cesar was born in this manner. Hence, the name.

In a C section surgery, the doctors make an incision on the lower abdomen along the naval line. They also further cut the uterus so that they can remove the baby out. The incision may be as long as six inches long depending on the size of the baby. The size of the baby is monitored through an ultrasound scan during the surgery. After the surgery is done the incision is sealed using sutures. It takes time for the stitches to heal after a C section surgery. The mother, however, can continue breast feeding her child and the stitches will heal within a weak in normal cases.

However, a C section is more painful in the end because of the external wound. A normal vaginal birth is also painful, but the pain lasts as long as the vaginal birth is taking place. The pain in vaginal birth is very similar to the pain experienced by women during menstruation.
