Signs Of Depression

The word ‘depression’ seems to be the favorite vocabulary of many these days. Declaring that you are in depression can certainly earn you loads of attention from loved ones. However, one needs to understand that there is a vast difference between sadness and depression, the latter being much more chronic.

It is only natural to experience temporary feelings of sadness and emotional outbursts in routine life. However, depression is a persistent condition that engulfs the individual’s thinking and emotions completely and leaves its mark in every sphere of life. The signs of this medical condition vary from one to another. While some patients of depression may be on an emotional tangent, there are others who may lose their ability to feel any emotion at all. These feelings of blankness or emotional outbursts can be difficult to handle and definitely require medical supervision.

One of the most common symptoms of depression is lack of interest in life altogether. The individual does not seem interested in anything, be it professional or personal. Such people develop negative thinking and attitude towards every aspect in life. Hopelessness and despair envelope the person making him or her feel that life is not worth living. The individual may even start detesting oneself. Many other alterations in daily routine and personality of the individual can indicate depression. The person affected may experience lack of sleep or oversleep, may often be in a bad mood and get agitated at the slightest provocation, could suddenly lose or gain weight, could experience concentration problems, may always feel lethargic and show no zeal towards any activity and may complain of frequent body aches.
