In contrast to some major diseases such as AIDS or cancer, depression may sound insignificant but the consequences of this medical condition can be more far reaching in one’s day to day life than any other ailment. Depression is actually an emotional disorder, which is more difficult to tackle than a physical ailment.
Studies reveal endless reasons for depression. While stress has been emphasized as one of the primary reasons of depression especially in the present generation; there are cases of people suffering from depression due to idleness or monotony in daily routine. Depression can start with a feeling of despair and sadness and escalate to suicidal tendencies as well. Different forms of depression have been identified in people, which not only have varied causes but symptoms as well.
Atypical depression is observed in patients experiencing rejection in personal relationships with reference to a lover, extremely dear friend or boss. The indications of this condition are overeating and oversleeping. Consuming an increased amount of carbohydrates such as cereals, white sugar, coffee, tea, chocolates leads to digestive problems. Indigestion results in production of gases in the digestive system that in turn lead to the compression of the diaphragm. Consequently, the level of oxygen in the tissues decreases, while that of carbon dioxide increases, thereby leading to depression. Therefore, it is prudent to eat three nutritious meals comprising of fruits, milk and nuts in the breakfast and vegetables in the lunch and dinner. Consumption of processed and fried foods should also be restricted. Arbitrary intake of medication should also be avoided to stay away from depression.
