The cure for dementia is very rare. It is generally assumed as diseases which are irreversible, progressive and degenerative. However, there are few types of dementia which can be reversed and cured but it entirely depends on howearly the fundamental cause is detected.
The different types of dementia are as follows:
Alzheimer’s Disease - It is one of the most common types of dementia. It usually occurs due to dead brain cells. It could be partly a genetic disease that would have run within the families in various generations. The brain cells that handle memory and mental functions get destroyed because of abnormal deposits of protein. Also, it has been noticed that those having this disease have generally lesser brain chemicals called neurotransmitters which controls brain functions.
Vascular Dementia - This is a type of dementia that occurs due to reduced supply of blood to the brain. A condition known as multi-infarct dementia results due to number of small strokes which leads to shortage of blood supply to brain.
Parkinson Disease - This disease exhibits symptoms like limb stiffness which results in shuffling when they walk, unclear speech, poor reasoning ability, loss of memory, unable to judge.
Lewy Body Dementia - This happens because of unusual microscopic deposits of protein in the neurons known as Lewy bodies which ultimately destroys the brain cells. Like Alzheimer’s, it is irreversible and has no cure.
Dementia Due To Alcohol - People who are alcoholics develop dementia and if alcohol consumption is not stopped immediately, it may progress further.
Pick’s Disease - It is again a rare brain disorder in which the front portion of the brain is affected. The cells of the front portion of the brain get destroyed leading to change in personality, loss of memory, and language troubles.
