In the United States, approximately six million people suffer from age dementia. Age dementia is actually a process in which the brain starts malfunctioning gradually leading to memory loss and impairment of cognitive skills. Let us discuss the symptoms of age dementia in detail.
The age dementia symptoms are as follows:
- Memory loss - Inability to recollect information, recent incidents, names and places etc. Prone to misplace daily activities related items like glasses, wrist watches, keys and similar items. Incidents spoken by them are being narrated repeatedly. They may ask same questions again and again without even realizing it.
- Loss of reasoning and calculating skills - Abstract thinking is impaired for instance they would not understand which cloth to wear for an occasion or decide how much to pay to someone because they are not able to do addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.
- Unable to read and write - They become unable to read a newspaper or write a letter because they would find themselves with loss of words and letters.
- Disorientation - Age dementia people are unable to orient themselves with a familiar place. If they go out in the neighborhood, they may not able to locate their house. Such people often get lost.
- Unable to perform personal tasks - They would not be able to cook, use electrical gadgets, telephones or mobile even if they would have done it before.
- Behavioral changes - There is a complete change in the personality. A fun loving and caring person would turn out to be irritated, aggressive and selfish person.
