Asperger’s syndrome is referred to as mild or even high-functioning autism. It is often mistaken to be an attention-deficient/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is heritable and arises due to the malfunctioning of some regions of the brain. Generally, this disorder is found to affect boys more than girls.

Some of the notable signs of this syndrome include the following:

• Retarded development in linguistic skills: Some children suffering from this syndrome could have inherent excellent vocabulary skills which get blocked and retards over a period of time without improvement.
• The individual does not really care whether the listener is interested in what he is speaking. Sometimes, family and friends guide the victim and indicate as to when to initiate and end conversations.
• Weird ways of socializing: The individual may not make eye contact while speaking to others. This could lead to a behavioral pattern of one-sided socializing.
• They lack coordination skills and carry out certain activities in a clumsy manner.
• Though they could be verbally pro-active, intellectuality of these individuals dips after a certain age.
• Dyslexia (difficulty in comprehending words and language) could arise due to this syndrome. For instance, these individuals would recognize 'b' as 'd'.
• They cannot understand humor and sometimes mistake others by taking what they say literally. This could get them unusual fights or arguments.
• The victims are preoccupied and engrossed in their own world and find it difficult or even impossible to adapt to the ever-changing trends of the society making them “different” in the eyes of others.
