Home Remedies For Infected Wounds
Whenever we get a minor scrape or cut, majority of us rush to the first aid kit, clean the wound with antiseptic lotion, apply an antiseptic cream like Neosporin or soframycin, cover it with a bandage, and get back to our work. But, what if you get wounded and there is no antiseptic ointment or lotion available at home? Will it be a good idea to leave the open wound as it is in such a condition? Definitely, not!
Open wounds get very easily infected with bacteria, thereby leading to development of pus, if they are not properly taken care of. If you do not have an antibacterial medicine or want to use something natural, you may try one of the following home remedies for both, prevention and treatment of infected wounds.
- Onions: They have antibiotic properties that help boost immune system, thereby quickening the healing of an infected wound. All you need to do is mince or crush 2-3 onions and apply this paste on the wound. Leave it to dry for at least 1 hour and wash it off. Repeat the same at regular intervals of time for 3 times in a day. This remedy is highly effective and does not cause any burning sensation or irritation on the skin.
- Honey: Honey has proven to be better than all medicinal antibiotics that are generally used to treat severe wounds like the ones caused by staph infections. It is known to release hydrogen peroxide onto the wound which helps to kill bacteria. Just apply a little honey on the wound with help of cotton and cover it with gauze or bandage.
- Garlic: It is known to have antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. It can be used in the same way as onions.
- Ginger: Applying ginger oil or finely minced ginger on the wound is also very effective in treating infections.
- Turmeric: Use of turmeric powder or paste on an infection not only heals it by killing the bacteria, but also speeds up the healing process by putting a check on excess bleeding.
