How To Heal Minor Concussion ?
Although concussions are of different intensities from minor to major, they have the same feature of interfering with the working of the brain. They can create havoc to memory, balance and coordination. The injury to the brain, however mild, requires time and rest for healing. People usually fully recover from a mild concussion.
The speed at which you recover from a brain injury and allow it to heal varies and is also dependent on a number of factors.
- Rest is of prime importance. Do not go back to your normal activities immediately. When you do return, don’t do them all at once. Take your time. Proper sleep at night is necessary.
- Stop certain activities immediately such as contact sports like football or boxing.
- Exercise care to prevent another concussion. If there are repeated concussions, serious problems may surface later in life like loss of memory and concentration.
- Consult your doctor about returning to activities like driving a motor vehicle. Reflexes are slow, so driving may not advisable for some time.
- Having alcohol may slow down recovery. Keep your doctor in the picture for such things.
- Follow the advice of your doctor and take only the prescribed drugs.
- Write down things if you fail to remember them.
- Consult family members before taking important decisions - at least, for some time.
Recovery will take time, so exercise patience and perseverance. It will reap benefits in the long run. Lead a normal life and soon you will be your usual self.
