Treating Minor Burns
Getting burnt or a scald is a horribly painful experience. And, it can happen to anyone. Therefore, it is prudent to know how to treat minor burns.
So, here are some of the ways to treat minor burns, which can come handy.
- Immediately after getting a burn injury, wash it under running water for at least 20 minutes.
- Relieve the pain in the affected area by using Aloe Vera cream or any other ointment for burns.
- You can pop in a tablet of Tylenol or Ibuprofen, as instructed in their bottle or packet for easing up the pain.
- Examine the affected area for any sign of blisters and do not break them if they do appear.
- You can apply Bacitracin or Neosporin for prevention of any infection.
- You can contact your doctor in case you have any doubts about the burn injuries.
In cases of a minor second degree burn, the following treatment protocol should be followed:
- Place the burnt part in cold water immediately after getting a burn injury. Let the burnt part cool in the water for about 5 minutes.
- The treatment for minor 2nd degree burns are as same as 1st degree burns even as the doctor might prescribe you a Silvadene cream in place of a Bacitracin or Neosporin.
- In case of appearance of blisters, do not break them. It is better to apply sterile gauze on the blisters in case the blisters are irritated by clothes or anything else.
- If the blisters break, clean the area with clean water before applying the Silvadene cream or an antibiotic ointment.
- Do not touch the affected area of burn with unclean hands or fingers.
- Keep examining the burnt area for any sign of infection or yellow drainage. In case you find them, it is highly advisable to see your doctor.
