Bleeding After Taking Emergency Contraceptive

Contraceptive pills are consumed when you perform sex without any form of protection. These days girls prefer to pop them in without realizing the consequences that they may suffer. Normally, these pills have to be considered as the last option when either your contraception fails. They have to be consumed within 72 hrs so that you do not fall pregnant.

Now, contraceptive pills do create a lot of changes in your menstrual cycle and may lead to a delay in your next menstrual cycle. Sometimes the pills can cause unnecessary bleeding which can be a serious problem. In such cases, it is advisable that you undergo the urine pregnancy test.

Women, who consumed a pill at least once in the initial three months after sex, got their periods very soon as compared to the ones who did not consume them. The ones, who consumed it only at the fourth week, got their periods at the exact time, but were extended to more than five days. And the following cycle also got prolonged in the process. The women, who did not consume these pills did face bleeding and stress. Secondly, women, who consumed it within the first two days well before the ovulation, were happy to get their periods on time. Thirdly, women who consumed the pills more than once just days before ovulation got their periods two days later than expected.

Bleeding mostly occurs if you consume these pills at the pre-ovulatory period. If the bleeding does not stop after a few days it might result into some other problem. The pills consist of levonorgestral hormones which is active if consumed within 12 hours. They become less powerful if taken after 12 hrs but before 72 hrs. They do not work if you consume it after 72 hrs.
