Zoloft Withdrawal

When a doctor starts a patient on an anti-depressant medication, he may or may not give the patient the list of side effects associated with that medication. While it is common for most anti-depressant drugs to have side effects, the patients should be made aware of the withdrawal symptoms too. This is especially necessary as most patients are weaned off anti-depressants in a couple of months.

Since anti-depressant drugs tend to be very addictive, the patient may have certain withdrawal symptoms if the medication is stopped abruptly. Some of the common symptoms of Zoloft withdrawal are dizziness, anxiety, headache, insomnia and tiredness. But this should not scare off the patient, or stop the patient from trying that medication.

There are some simple ways to take care of these withdrawal symptoms. One can get a massage from a professional to feel better because Zoloft withdrawal may also result in muscle tension, and such a massage can make the patient feel better.

It is also a good idea to indulge in some form of exercise as it helps in fighting depression. A diet which is healthy and has less sugar should also help in dealing with Zoloft withdrawal. Despite this, if the patient is still suffers from different withdrawal symptoms, he may have to go back to a bit higher dose of Zoloft. However, this does not indicate that the patient may not be able come off Zoloft ever. It just means that it may take longer for some patients getting off Zoloft as they may find it more difficult. One just needs to go through Zoloft withdrawal with patience, and not hurry things up as this will only cause more stress and anxiety.
