Signs Of Percocet Abuse

Percocet is a highly addictive drug. It has been classified as a schedule II narcotic by the Food and Drug Administration of the United States. Percocet is a combination of two other medications, namely Oxycodone and Acetaminophen. It is like a high dosage of Morphine. An overdose of this medication can prove to be fatal in most cases.

When taken for a long time, Percocet can be very addictive and difficult to withdraw. There are some distinctive symptoms of addiction for this drug. Most patients who get addicted say that they are ready to get off the medication but will show desperateness at the time of the day when the daily dose was to be taken. They might repeatedly ask for the drug regularly. They cannot perform their daily routine normally and are lethargic or in bed most of the time.

Loss of appetite and insomnia are few other symptoms after several weeks of discontinuing the medication. Other symptoms are shivering, denial, increased suicidal tendencies, depression, moodiness and weight loss. It is very difficult to do without the drug.  Many times, the patient will go back to the doctor on the pretext of pain and ask the doctors to prescribe the same medication.

Family members should notify such behavior to the doctor. Some addicts will avoid going to the same physician for the fear of getting disappointed but a family member should always accompany a patient for all visits to the clinic.

If Percocet becomes an addiction, then rehabilitation is the only way out of this problem. In addition this, the drug can cause permanent damage to liver by its perforation abilities. It can also cause stomach ulcers.
