Reasons To Switch To Higher Dose Of Paxil

Paxil is an anti-depressant which is used to treat conditions like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses. Anti-depression medications are also be used to treat nerve pain, and are normally used as a mild painkiller. However, anti-depressants are known to have dangerous side effects like increasing thoughts of suicide and can be very addictive in nature.

Patients who take drugs like Paxil tend to get addicted to them, and stopping the medicine later can be a big challenge for them.

The only situation in which a psychiatrist can increase the dosage of the medicine is when the depression is seen to progress. Typically, depression is well controlled once the patient starts the medicine. However, several conditions like aches, pains or other nerve disorders may warrant an increase of the dosage.

Paxil is also available as an over-the-counter medication. This is dependant on the dosage and type of medication the doctor has prescribed. Paxil may be given as a short-term medication for a temporary problem or depression caused by trauma and accidents. However, this prescription drug is only used in clinical examinations. A typical dosage would be a daily dose of 20mg of Paxil. This is dependant on the problem and the treatment plan.

The initial dosage of 20 mg may be increased depending on the patient’s response to the medication. The dosage can be raised to a daily dose of 50 mg. Once this is established in the body system, the dosage of the medication can be increased by 10 mg per day. The increased dosage is more effective and helps to treat the condition faster. This is the most common reason behind an increase of the dosage.
