A patient taking Paxil, an anti-depressant, needs careful and close monitoring in the initial days for side effects. While some side effects of this drug are extremely dangerous, others can cause permanent damage to the body.

One needs to watch out for symptoms like abnormal heart rate, dizziness, unconsciousness, fatigue and abnormal heart rate in the patient taking Paxil. This anti-depressant can also cause abnormal bleeding from the gums, nose and stomach. When there is bleeding in the stomach, the stools will be dark brown in color. It is important not to ignore these symptoms, as it can cause serious complications like blood clots within the body. All these symptoms together can indicate a serious problem; it can be a warning sign of a possible memory loss. The moment one notices two or more symptoms, the patient needs to be taken to a hospital.  

There are several other indications or symptoms one needs to watch out for to determine possible memory loss in the patient taking Paxil. One of the main indications is a change in behavior. A change in mental status is characterized by increased depression, suicidal tendencies, and hallucinations. Some patients may seem more agitated or irritated than usual. The muscles turn stiff and this physical stiffness is easily delineated.  

Some of these symptoms need to be monitored closely for prompt treatment. The best way to prevent serious physical damage is by early detection of symptoms. Memory loss is only experienced by people who take Paxil on a long term basis. However, some patients with prolonged intake of this medicine have experienced short term memory loss.
