Lyrica is an anti-epileptic drug and is also sold with the generic name pregabalin. It is also used to treat fibromyaglia, and is one of the first drugs authorized by the US FDA for this condition. The drug is also being used to treat diabetic neuropathy, herpes, and partial seizures.

The basic functionality of Lyrica is to reduce pain and control sensitivity. It binds to the protein in the nerve cells and reduces the sensitivity so that pain is not felt by the person. Basically it has an effect over the chemical reactions taking place in the brain.

Fibromyalgia is a condition related to nerves and pain in the muscles, tendons and ligaments. It causes pain from head to toe, and also causes sleeplessness and exhaustion. Lyrica can reduce the pain experienced due to this condition and as a result the persons sleep pattern may be regularized. It is an effective drug to treat conditions like diabetic neuropathy and herpes because they are associated with pain. Lyrica does not cure the condition but helps to controls the pain caused by the pre-existing condition. The day you stop taking the drug, the pain returns and the symptoms tend to increase again.

Some of the basic side effects or symptoms of Lyrica are dizziness, drowsiness, edema, swelling in the hands, mouth and feet, constipation, indigestion, dry mouth, increase in appetite, attention deficit, feeling delirious, and having difficulty in concentration. If any of the symptoms are too severe, then you should contact your doctor immediately.
