Lyrica And Liver Damage

Lyrica, also known as pregabalin, is mainly used to treat epileptic seizures. It was also later determined that it can effectively treat nerve pain caused due to diabetic neuropathy. It treats epileptic seizures by interacting with the chemicals in the brain. It alters the levels of the chemicals.

Lyrica, being an antiepileptic drug, has its own side effects. However, most people misunderstand it to be a narcotic and this is not true. It kills pain but it is not a narcotic. It is not addictive either.  Sometimes, as a side effect, it can alter moods or cause mood swings.

Lyrica has the potential to damage the liver if a person with a pre-existing liver condition takes it. It is the patient’s responsibility to discuss all the side effects with the doctor before starting the medication. They should also disclose the complete medical history. Lyrica does not suit people with liver problems and only tend to increase the conditions to fatal levels. It can also cause permanent liver damage. While taking Lyrica, a person cannot take any other anti-epileptic drug or pain killer. It can seriously cause a drug cocktail within the body and lead to death or severe damage to the body parts.

People, who have diabetes, may find cure in Lyrica for the nerve pains. However, this needs to be checked with the doctor. People with diabetes tend to suffer from other kidney-related problems and the suitability of Lyrica needs to be established in case it has to be prescribed for them.
