Lipitor is used to treat cholesterol and blood pressure problems. Lipitor does have mild side effects. Many of the side effects are related to the gastro intestinal tract like constipation, stomach pain, abdominal cramps and flatulence. Most of these symptoms are actually woven together. One leads to another in such a case.
A stomach pain could be a direct result of constipation and also flatulence. These problems mainly arise due to indigestion. For some people, the problem can become diarrhea. However, if you have excessive stomach pain, then you should probably change your medication.
Among all the side effects, gastrointestinal problems have been reported the most by patients. The symptoms have been noticed in the initial few weeks of using the medication. In most cases, under normal circumstances, the symptoms go away in a couple of week’s time. However, stomach pain is always accompanied with other clear symptoms like constipation and flatulence. This can be blamed on the drug directly.
When you start taking Lipitor you can make minor changes to your diet and find if it helps. Some of the changes would be to take more dietary fibers and foods with high fiber content. Stop eating high protein content foods. This may also be effective in treating cholesterol problems. Red meat is very difficult to digest. So, substitute it with chicken or fish. Also, eat a lot of green leafy vegetables and make your diet more stomach-friendly. Consuming fruit juice along with your breakfast may help the situation. If it is becoming a hindrance, then consult your doctor and change the timings to take the medicine.
