Lipitor is an extremely popular medication that is prescribed to lower cholesterol and blood pressure. It has been considered very safe by doctors for a long period of time now. Like any other drug, Lipitor has its side effects and symptoms but they are of serious nature. The side effects are mild and go away within a couple of week’s time.
However, talking to your doctor about what to expect before you take Lipitor could help you understand the side effects better.
Some of the most common side effects faced by people when they begin Lipitor are headaches, constipation, gas, diarrhea, stomach pain and abdominal cramps. Some also get rashes or mild joint pains.
However, these symptoms are not long lasting. Some people even experience these symptoms soon after stopping the medication. However, if you are facing any of these symptoms, there may be several other reasons causing them. Lipitor does not suit people who have other pre-existing conditions like kidney problems, diabetes, alcoholism and thyroid disorders. Some of the serious side effects due to kidney problems caused by Lipitor also tend to go away once the person stops taking the drug. However, it could at least take 2 weeks before the effects completely wear off.
Serious side effects are extremely uncommon with Lipitor. Lipitor may become dangerous when you mix it with some other form of medication without your doctor's knowledge. Any other prescription drug you take should be discussed with your doctor first. It is in your best interest to avoid kidney and liver problems.
