Geodon is the fifth atypical antipsychotic drug marketed by Pfizer. It is used for the treatment of schizophrenia. Geodon is the market name for the drug Ziprosidone. This medicine is used in the acute treatment of mania, and mixed states associated with bipolar disorders or manic-depression. Geodon has a high affinity for dopamine, serotonin and minimum affinity for histaminic receptors.

Geodon is not a drug to lose weight, but one of the side effects is the tendency to loss weight. A long term intake of Geodon may reduce the weight of overweight patients. The weight loss was found in those patients who had gained weight due to other antipsychotic drugs. The use of the Geodon has resulted in a tendency to go back to their baseline weight.
