What Are Common Side Effects Of Gardasil ?

Gardasil is the vaccine against all the four types of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). It is provided intravenously as three doses over a period of six months. As in every vaccine, Gardasil is also associated with some side effects.

It is not necessary that every one who is treated with Gardasil must experience these side effects, as most people react positively to vaccine. Usually minor side effects occur which do not require any treatment, or they can be easily treated.

Side effects that occurred during clinical trials may vary as they are evaluated under different conditions. Headache, nausea, fever, dizziness, pain in local injection site, erythema, pruritus, and bruising are the commonly occurring side effects on administration of Gardasil. Pain in the area of injection is a common in about 84 percent people. Swelling occurs in about 25.5 percent of those who are administered with the vaccine. Another side effect is the redness in the area of infection which accounts for about in 25 percent. Fever is common in 13 percent, where as nausea occurs in some 13 percent. Dizziness and diarrhea are common in about 4 percent of people. 24.7 percent showed erythema; whereas 3.2 percent exhibited pruritus. Bruising was found in 2.8 percent of people who had taken the vaccination. Vomiting, coughs, tooth ache, joint pain, sleeping troubles, and stuffy nose are the other commonly occurring side effects of Gardasil.

However, there have been some serious adverse reactions to this vaccine which have been found during the clinical trials. Gastroenteritis, appendicitis, pelvic inflammatory diseases, urinary tract infection, pneumonia, pyelonephritis, pulmonary embolism, bronchospasam, and asthma are some of those ailments that have occurred during clinical trials. It is advisable to seek immediate medical treatment, if any of these symptoms occur after a Gardasil vaccination.
