Every medication is focused on treating a particular disease or health condition. When it comes to Digoxin, the medication is used to treat certain heart diseases like congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation and so on.
There are basically three heart conditions that Digoxin can treat. These are atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation and heart failure. However, this medication is administered if other medications are not effective to treat these diseases. Sometimes, Digoxin is also used to treat Paroxysal Supraventricular Tachycardia or PSVT and PSVT prophylaxis.
Atrial fibrillation is type of arrhythmia or improper heart beat that is found to be the most common condition in the population. Symptoms may include irregular but rapid heart rates with some angina or chest pain. Atrial flutter is the abnormal or improper heart rhythm that can be found in the upper chamber of the heart or the atria. Symptoms of this may not be significantly noticeable, but may present themselves as just regular palpitations. Heart failure is the cardiac condition when the heart functions improperly and thus, resulting in improper blood flow to the body. Heart failure has several symptoms that could be categorized as left-sided or right sided symptoms.
PSVT is the condition when the heart experiences rapid rhythm with an accessory pathway. Its symptoms would include shortness of breath, dizziness and feelings of chest pounding.
These are the heart conditions that Digoxin can treat. However, it is important to have your condition checked, and get a prescription from your physician and see if this medication is right for you.
