When it comes to medicine, you will notice that there are some medicines that the doctor will prohibit you to take if you are taking other medications. Digoxin is being used for patients who have heart problems such as heart failure and others; heart conditions that have failed to respond some other types of medications. Azithromycin, on the other hand, is a type of antibacterial medications used to treat people with bacterial infection such as pneumonia, laryngitis and others. When these two medications were given to a patient, the patient will not get good results, and it may eve result in his condition deteriorating.

The reason for this is that the combination of these medicines tends to increase Digoxin toxicity in the body. This toxicity may cause heart rate changes, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, visual changes, and even psychological problems like nightmares and depression.

Once the patient is given a combination of Digoxin and Azithromycin, he has to be monitored continuously in order to check Digoxin levels in the body. With this, it is important for physicians to monitor and administer this combination with best caution in order to treat the patient, and not to put him into risky medical situations.
