Benadryl prevents the effects of histamine, which naturally occurs in the body. This antihistamine is everyone’s favorite over-the-counter drug. Many use the medication to alleviate allergic reactions like rashes, itchiness, running nose and watery eyes. However, the favorite use of benadryl is to induce sleep.
When taken for a long period on time, one can get addicted to it. That is, their body has become chemically dependent on Benadryl. So, when one decides to stop using the medication after a long period of time, they may find that their body will refuse to accept it. If your condition is mild, then you can wait and see if the symptoms disappear in time. Otherwise, consult a doctor if you find you are unable to stand withdrawal symptoms.
Also, if your body has become addicted to it, it is best to not stop using Benadryl immediately. Ask you doctor for advise as he will be able to guide you through the process, and help you stop gradually. This way the withdrawal symptoms will be minimum.
Some have complained that they feel as though their blood has become thicker and it does not move properly. It might make you feel awful. Taking aspirin, a blood thinner might help. However, avoid becoming your own doctor. You can consult a doctor and ask him suggestions. Remember, they are the experts. This way you can avoid all the hassle of medication withdrawal symptoms, and just focus on getting well.
Never take Benadryl for a prolonged period of time, unless prescribed otherwise by a physician. It might prove to be more harmful than good in the long run.
