A lot of doctors prescribe bactrim for bronchitis, ear infections, urinary tract infections and sinus infection. It is a sulfa-based drug which has a combination of two antibiotics. Avoid taking this drug if you are expecting, breast-feeding or if you have anemia.
Do not use bactrim if you are allergic to any other sulfa-based drugs. If you happen to be allergic to it, bactrim can cause nosebleeds, and also make your blood platelet count decrease at an alarming rate. Some might even have blood in the urine. If the allergic reaction becomes very severe, one can even start bleeding through the skin. Some have complained of fever, shivers and chills which started as soon as they had taken bactrim.
However, nosebleeds are rare. So, those who are not allergic to bactrim, do not have to be afraid of the medicine. Also, not all who are allergic will get nosebleeds. Some might only suffer on a minor level. Severe reactions are again rare.
Inform your doctor immediately if you are experiencing any of the above mentioned symptoms. People may be allergic to sulfa drugs without even bring aware of it. Write down the reactions on your medical report so that you can use it for future reference. Discontinue use and ask the doctor to give you an alternate drug.
Do not take bactrim without consulting your doctor. You might end up using this to treat a viral infection or end up killing all the good bacteria. Worse still, sometimes it can prove fatal if one does not associate the symptoms with the intake of the drug.
