A UTI or urinary tract infection, and is caused by a bacteria. Urine contains several proteins and minerals and salts, but there is no presence of bacteria in the urine. When passing urine while having an infection, the bacteria burn the skin and hurt it. The symptoms of UTI tend to disappear mostly on their own without any treatment. However, the infection, if not treated with antibiotics, has the chances of spreading to the kidneys. Especially during pregnancy, women should act quickly on the infection because it can cause preterm labor.
There are other ways to cure urinary tract infection instead of medication. If you are healthy and the infection was not present for too long, these alternatives can be tried to treat the infection.
Consume cranberry juice after diluting it by mixing one part of the juice to three parts of water. Cranberries contain acid and sulfur that prevent the bacteria from adhering to the walls of the uterus. Some doctors claim that consuming cranberry juice clears up the bacterial infection and also helps to prevent it. It also alleviates the symptoms of UTI. Also, foods containing cranberries lower the risks of UTI after twelve months of usage. It improves the immunity to such bacterial infections.
The only problem is that cranberry juice contains more sugar and it is not recommended to drink concentrated cranberry juice. You can try consuming cranberry juice that is unsweetened the moment you suspect a UTI. This way you can get rid of the infection without antibiotics.
Also, drink plenty of water and visit the bathroom as often as you need to flush out the bacteria. The more you urinate, the more the bacteria get flushed out. You may feel the need to urinate every twenty minutes when you drink fluids.
A hot bath helps to cure UTIs, as per Dr. Richard J. Macchia, who claims that it relieves irritation and burning experienced while urinating.
If you have fever, take ibuprofen every fourth hour. However, urinary tract infections are not a cause for concern in the beginning except the pain that they cause. You can also take a Vitamin C supplement to fight the bacteria in the urine. You can take up to 1000 mcg of Vitamin C every day. Take the tablets for three to four days and see if the symptoms are subsiding. Continue to drink plenty of water as well as cranberry juice.
However, if the symptoms appear to be worsening, then see a doctor immediately. The doctor will prescribe antibiotics which start working as soon as you take them. Also, do not wait if you have high temperature.
