You can get ulcers in your mouth due to certain medications, infections or even diseases like herpes. However, the most common cause of mouth ulcers is inadvertently biting the side of your cheek. Other causes of ulcers in the mouth include anemia, hormonal imbalance, food allergies, deficiency of Vitamin B2 and consuming highly spiced food.

Ulcers in the mouth are usually caused by a virus, and once a person is infected, the virus will live forever in the person's mouth.

If you suffer from mouth ulcers, you can use the following treatment methods to cure the ulcers.

You can use herbal antiseptic like teak tree oil or a mouthwash made from herbs. The antiseptic should be poured on a sterile blob of cotton and the ulcers should be swabbed with it. While the mouthwash should be used after meals and before going to bed. The same procedure should be followed if you are using a medicated mouthwash.

You can even purchase an over-the-counter antiseptic for the mouth and apply it gently on the ulcers using a ball of cotton. Alternatively, you can rinse your mouth few times a day with a concoction of warm water and table salt. This may sting a little bit, but is quite effective.

You can even try eating figs as they are known to be quite effective in curing mouth ulcers.
