If a person has stomach ulcers, then he or she has to take care of their diet. There are certain things that they can eat and certain food items that they cannot eat as they will aggravate the condition. Stomach ulcers are nothing but sores in the lining of the stomach.
Depending on the location of the ulcer, different kinds of stomach ulcers are named, like gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers. Usually stomach ulcers are around one-eighth of an inch to around three-fourth of an inch in size. They are caused due to poor lifestyle habits like consuming alcohol or smoking. You can also get stomach ulcers if you take certain medications like painkillers. However, the most common causes of stomach ulcers is stress or having an infection of H. pylori bacterium.
If you are suffering from stomach ulcers, then you need to be on a diet. You need to eat food that reduces gastric acid secretions. Some of the foods that should part of a diet for stomach ulcers are as follows:
A person having stomach ulcers should eat a lot of whole grains and other cereals. This means that eating rice, crackers, waffles, barley, pita bread or bagels will actually work wonders. However, you should avoid eating croissants, bran, granola or crackers with seeds.
You should eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. However, the person should refrain from eating fruits that are acidic in nature as they will aggravate the condition. Therefore, do not eat fruits that have high levels of citric acid. This means avoiding fruits like pineapple, oranges, figs, tangerines and grapefruits. Also, do not eat vegetables from brassica family, cucumbers, tomatoes, green peppers, tomatoes, sprouts and turnips.
Make sure that you eat just low fat and lean meat like poultry, veal or lamb. Also, you can eat eggs, fresh fish, ham and beef. But, stay away from sardines, anchovies, corned beef and spiced sausages.
Dairy products should low fat products like low fat milk, yoghurt or cottage cheese. Do not drink whole milk, have cream or chocolate milk and other strongly flavored cheeses.
