Toxic Shock Syndrome was actually linked in the year 1981 with those women who used tampons during their menstrual cycles. However, this is not the only reason there can be some other reasons of having this illness. It is one of those rarest kinds of bacterial infection that is caused by a specific type of bacteria known as Staphylococcus aureus.
In this condition, the bacteria responsible for causing infection manage to enter the blood stream and releases toxic substances resulting in high fever, lowered blood pressure and also multiple organ failure. If not arrested in time, this could be even fatal.
The condition is usually caused by the staph bacterial infection but there is one more form of TSS that is caused by Streptococcus bacteria. While Staph is present in the human body always, sometimes an unusual condition turns them aggressive causing infections. Strep, however, gets in the body from an outside source. An open wound always invites millions of bacteria enabling them to enter the bloodstream very easily. Other causes of getting these bacteria in the bloodstream are via nose picking, surgical areas, sore throats and alterations in the mucus membrane such as the vagina. Therefore it is must be ensured that opened wounds are cleaned thoroughly regularly. In the hospitals, the staff are especially trained in this aspect to prevent the spread of these toxins released by the bacteria. Hence, cleanliness and an appropriate environmental condition do not allow these bacteria to develop or spread.
