Symptoms Of Toxic Shock Syndrome

When toxins tends to circulate in the bloodstream of a human body it causes one of the rarest life threatening condition commonly known as TSS, or toxic shock syndrome. It usually occurs when an infection through bacteria releases its toxins in the affected body part and eventually reaches the blood stream.

This causes high fever, rash and a lowered blood pressure. These conditions further leads to multiple failures of different organ system of the body. Multiple organ failure can be fatal causing even death. Hence, it is termed as a rare life threatening disease.

TSS was not known till 1978. It was first discovered amongst children. In the year 1981, TSS was associated with women who used tampons. When TSS occurs, the person initially feels only mild symptoms initially for first two to three days and then gradually the disease develops. The mild symptoms are a low rated fever, muscle pains, chills and a general feeling of uneasiness and ill-health.

Once the condition develops, it affects multiple organs such as lungs, liver, kidneys, blood and also the pancreas. As the condition progresses, the symptoms include high fever which is usually more than 102 degree Fahrenheit, rashes which are flat and not raised these appear as red and resembles sunburn like rashes covering the entire body. It also causes headache, redness of eyes, lips and the tongue. Few other symptoms are muscle pain, sore throat, cough, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, pain in the abdomen, feeling light and fainting tendency, confusion and disorientation and extremely low blood pressure.
