Thrush Mouth Symptoms

Yeast infection or medically termed as candida fungus infection causes thrush. Candida occurs naturally near the area of the mouth, skin and some other parts of the body. The growth of this type of fungus is being controlled by the body’s own immune system. Therefore, in those individuals who possess weak immune system or those in which the candida fungus growth control factors are diminished they get attacked by these types of infection.

The most primary symptom of an oral thrush is white creamy lesions that appear near the area of the mouth. They generally occur on the tongue, cheeks or sometimes may appear in the gums and on the surface of the mouth. When the symptoms continue, these lesions start becoming very painful and also begin to spread towards the throat, and can even reach up to the tonsils. If not treated in time and if these gets scratched by any means they start bleeding causing further pain and uneasiness. If the condition persists, the affected person becomes unable to swallow anything. As they try to gulp down something, the lesions tends to hurt causing pain and bleeding in the lower throat.

A condition known as Candida esophagitis occurs when the thrush gradually spreads down to the level of the esophagus. Small lesions start developing in the esophagus causing discomfort in the chest. Such conditions cannot be neglected at all and should be immediately treated with anti-fungal injections or tablets. The mild type of thrush is usually treated with acidophilus capsules or by taking plain curd. These capsules or the curd actually supplies healthy bacteria that helps in the healing of the lesions and stop the growth of the yeast infection. When this treatment fails, doctors advise anti-fungal medicines.
