Oral thrush occurs due to infection from a fungus known as Candida albicans. It causes white creamy like abrasions on the lining of the mouth and also in the tongue. Thrush is mostly common in newborn babies and those who have artificial dentures, those who inhale corticosteroids and finally those whose immune system is not very strong. These abrasions are usually painful especially while eating something.
Since eating is the most difficult task when one suffers from oral thrush, therefore it is very necessary to know that which food one should avoid in order to avert further problems. The first thing to avoid is all kinds of acidic food. Acid present in these types of food can further cause abrasions to increase interrupting the process of healing. Acidic foods such as all kinds of citrus fruits, juices, pineapples, strawberries, raspberries, red currants, cranberry juice, tomatoes and its products etc.
Spicy food should be the second thing that must be avoided by all means. Spices like black pepper, chili powder, cumin, red and hot peppers, hot sauces and also spicy mustard sauce. Spicy cuisines like Indian, Mexican and Thai should be generally avoided. Also, avoid the very hot food. If the food eaten is too hot, then it might aggravate the problems associated with orals thrush. It is advisable to consume food that has attained the normal room temperature. The last thing to ensure is to preferably avoid all kinds of hard foods. Eating hard food would require too much of munching adding extra pressure on the mouth. This would definitely increase the problems. Therefore, the best thing is to keep them at a distance, as far as possible.
