What Does Syphilis Look Like ?

There are 3 stages of syphilis infection mainly. It is a bacterial infection that is caused by the Treponema pallidum bacterium. This type of infection can only occur through sexual contact, and it is one of the sexually transmitted diseases. Each stage of the disease exhibits its own symptoms, and also it looks different.
At the primary stage the syphilis bacteria will cause a sore in the genitals. The sore can occur in any place in the genitals. It is usually red in color and it may be a small one. This sore will heal on its own in about four weeks time. However, that does not mean that the syphilis infection is completely cured and the bacteria have gone out of the body.
In the secondary stage, which can occur a few months later, there will be more such sores in the genital area and it is possible that during this time the sore may start appearing in other areas of the body as well. This stage can last for three to nine month before the sores go away. However, thinking that the sores are gone and if the person comes in contact with another person sexually, they can transfer the disease to them also.
In the third stage, the syphilis infection would have actually spread to various organs of the body and it starts affecting them also. It affects the brain, liver, skin, bones, and the heart. Also, when it affects the brain it cause problems like memory loss partially and it cal also lead to blindness or dementia. After reaching a stage of dementia, the person may die very soon. Syphilis can become fatal, and it has the potential to cause irreversible damages to the body.
