Mini Stroke Warning Signs

Mini strokes, also referred to as transient ischemic attacks, occur when blood does not reach a particular part of the brain. As a result, any function controlled by that part of the brain fails. This type of stroke lasts just for a short while, but the effects can be permanent. Also, a mini stroke could turn into a full-fledged stroke at a later stage. Hence, knowing mini stroke warning signs could help a person seek immediate medical attention and prevent any damage to the brain or avert a full-fledged stroke.

Typically, warning signs of a mini stroke are not that obvious or noticeable. However, a person would find that something is amiss before the onset of the stroke. Anything unusual should not be neglected and a person should visit a doctor as soon as possible (within 24 hours) to get a thorough medical checkup done.

Some of the symptoms of a mini stroke include sudden numbness in the face, arms or legs. The person may also experience vision problems, such as blurred vision or double vision. Some people also report temporary blindness. The vision problem could affect just one eye or both eyes. The person would also experience dizziness and have problems maintaining balance. As a result, this could affect the person's ability to walk steadily and straight. Several patients complain of speech problems, including slurred speech and difficulties in understanding what other people are saying. All these symptoms could accompany with sudden confusion, where the person does not know what is happening around him/her. Furthermore, as the brain is affected, the person may also lose his/her ability to move the arms and legs, but at times, this lack of movement is restricted just to one side of the body. This indicates that just one side of the brain has been affected by the mini stroke.

A mini stroke should never be neglected, as it is a sign that a person could be coming in for a full-fledged stroke, which could be extremely debilitating. Hence, ensuring that such attacks do not occur in future, a person is usually advised to chew on aspirin. Aspirins are anticoagulants and make the blood thinner. This facilitates smooth flow of the blood in the blood vessels. There is still no medication that can avert a mini stroke, but taking certain precautions can avert a stroke. Eating healthily, quitting smoking, doing regular exercise, and maintaining blood pressure and cholesterol levels are prevent measures that go a long way in averting mini strokes.

Short Term Memory Loss In Stroke Patients      A short term memory loss is often confused with Alzheimer’s. A stroke patient has a high possibility of experiencing short term memory loss, which is also called vascular dementia. This type of memory loss is extremely debilitating. Short term memory loss is caused when the blood flow to the brain does not occur for some reason. The cortex is the region that controls learning, reasoning, speaking and remembering. When the cortex is not functioning properly, a person tends to have problems in all these areas. This can happen as a result of a massive stroke or several smaller strokes. More..
