Another name for pink eye is conjunctivitis. The membrane present on the eye gets infected due a virus or bacterium, leading the eyeball and eyelids to turn red and inflamed. However, if your pink eye is on account of a chemical, you should immediately visit a doctor without any delay as the damage could be very severe.
Pink eye caused due to viral infection normally will not be given any medication. However, you may be prescribed anti-inflammatory eye drops or medications to ease the swelling. Otherwise, the doctor will recommend warm compress to alleviate the symptoms.
