The term arthritis out of osteoarthritis (OA) basically means inflammation. It causes pain and swelling. The pain as well as swelling is observed in the bones. Actually there are nearly hundred different conditions that can affect the bones, joints and tissues. Most of them suffer from some kind of bleeding and infection. These problems are quite associated with arthritis.
Arthritis is definitely different from OA. It can rarely cause deformity in the joints. It occurs again in both men and women who have crossed 45. In fact, approximately 167 million people in the US face OA. However, certain spinal arthritis can be noticed in older people too.
The other major problems would be wear and tear, injury and damage to the area due to some kind of infection. The cartilage, which basically protects our bones, begins to split by absorbing enough water and forms clefts and fissures. Due to the cartilage getting damaged, more space is formed as the bones get narrow. OA commonly affects areas that are heavy and kind of form a pillar to the body. Hands, hips, thighs, feet, back, spine and knees are generally the victims. Out of all these, the most affected one is the knee. At times you might find lumps getting formed in between fingers and joints. It is better if we accept it to be an inevitable part of the ageing process. It has also been found to affect Egyptian mummies.
It affects every person irrespective of country or ethnicity. It also affects a major chunk of people in the US, Asia and Africa. However, the best way to stay healthy is by constantly taking care during our early ages like consuming healthy food and taking care of our body. Avoid constantly working in a particular posture. If you have a family history of OA, then better take extra care by not getting overweight.
