Muscular dystrophy is a genetically acquired condition that ends up weakening the muscles. It is also a degenerative disease. It affects the muscles progressively and makes them weaker with time. This includes the heart which is a muscle. A weak heart is dangerous to have because it can cause various other heart problems.
Also, muscular dystrophy is a condition that occurs slowly. Initially, nobody may notice it, but only some weakness. However, later, as the time passes by, the weakness becomes more visible in various forms. People with this condition find it difficult to walk or even sit up sometimes. Their muscles are so weak that it cannot support their basic structure. There are different types of muscular dystrophies that affect various age groups of people and also various muscle groups.
Some of these conditions are found out early in childhood and others do not develop until adulthood. However, muscular dystrophy that strikes at childhood can be much more dangerous because it can stop the growth of the child. The muscle breaks down faster than it is growing and also it weakens the heart really fast. A child with a poorly functioning heart muscle can become prone to various other conditions as well. Also, the children can develop scoliosis and various other related conditions. The spine also does not develop properly because of dystrophy. All these actually do more harm to the heart. Also, children who have a heart condition due to muscular dystrophy lead restricted lives.
