Meningitis is related to the membrane of the brain and it is an infection caused by both a bacteria and a virus. The bacterial form of meningitis is more dangerous than the viral form of it. Meningitis is a result of an infection and it can be caused by virus, fungus, bacteria and parasites. Also, a weak immune system can actually promote the meningitis infection.
However, the most apparent reason for meningitis is a viral infection. It is also often difficult to detect because the symptoms of it is very similar to the flu. Also, the viral meningitis is easily curable and is not a very serious form of illness. It can even be caused due to mosquito borne viruses. However, there is not specific form of treatment available for meningitis even today. The viral meningitis get okay on its own within a few days of starting just like flu. It just has to complete its course.
The same cannot be said about bacterial meningitis. This form of meningitis imitates the immune system and starts taking over the entire body. That is why it is considered as a serious infection. However, these days, vaccinations are available for the Hib bacterium that causes bacterial meningitis and doctors strongly recommend it because there is no treatment available for it. The Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria have an important role to play in the meningitis fever. It also causes flu, but it is a different strain that is causes meningitis. The person is hospitalized and given antibiotics through drips to flush out the bacteria.
