What Causes Lead Poisoning ?

Lead is a kind of heavy metal that is used by various types of industries for making several household goods. Until the 1970s even toys and gasoline had lead and including paints everything had lead as an important composition. However, after knowing that lead is poisonous for health and continuous exposure to it causes slow poisoning the government banned the usage of lead in several products.

It is exposure to lead that causes lead poisoning. It only happens when the level of lead increases in the blood. Lead gets absorbed by body but does not get out of the system so it starts accumulating in the body. Also note that lead can be absorbed into the body through air.

Continuous exposure to lead has been found to interfere with the mental growth of children. It can also affect a child’s mental development, and also the IQ. Also, children who have been exposed to lead have symptoms that include difficulty in concentrating, ADD and many such mental health problems. In addition, lead exposure weakness in a person causing anemia through appetite loss. Lead poisoning is also a type of slow poisoning which occurs over a period of time.

Some of the symptoms of lead poisoning are headaches, diarrhea, nausea, constipation, irritation and behavior problems, loss of appetite and a metallic taste in the mouth. Even the color of urine can turn into brown over a period of time. A person who is being exposed to lead on a constant basis will also have constipation and digestion problems. Severe lead exposure can lead to organ failure like kidney or renal failures.
