Lazy Eye Treatment

Lazy eye is also known as amblyopia, and it is actually a quite common condition to have among several Americans. However, even though lazy eye has various treatments but if left unattended to it can cause permanent vision loss. It is very essential that lazy eye should be identified in its early stages and also treated. It is most common in children and it has to be identified during childhood only.

Some of the recent researches show that lazy eye can be treated effectively among children in the older age groups. Lazy eye is not correctible with the help of vision glasses or contact lenses. It is not a vision defect but is more related to neurology. Also it does not occur due to any type of eye disease. It is a defect with the brain and the brain refuses to see the images that the lazy eye sees. Even though the eye that can function perfectly and normally, the brain does not receive the images from that particular eye. Think of it is a failure in connection from one of the eyes to the brain.

If there has been anything that interfered with the vision of the eye during birth to the age of 6 months then a lazy eye can develop. It is an acquired condition. Also, if a child is constantly using one eye more than the other, then the problem of lazy eye can occur. The child may not realize and they understand their world by looking from one eye. So, at the same time this condition is quite difficult to detect in a child who is too young.
