Lazy eye is also called amblyopia, and it is a condition wherein one of the eyes does not function properly. The brain cannot process the images that are seen by the lazy eye. The eye is perfectly okay and is capable of vision.
Doctors believe that the lazy eye can be trained to see images over a period of time through consistent efforts. One of the methods that the doctors try to do with children is they patch the eye that is working normally and they force the lazy eye to see images and process them through the brain. Over a period of time, a person starts seeing images from the lazy eye. The visual cells get stimulated, but it is a lengthy process. Even glasses are prescribed to the person so that they can help their eye see images clearly. Also, when only one eye is functioning, a person would mentally try harder to see from that eye. This it is a stimulating activity for the eye and the brain.
The different types of treatments for a lazy eye are patching the eye, patching the eye and also performing a surgery, and patching along with vision therapy. All the three so far have proven to be an effective form of treatment in correcting the problem of lazy eye.
The detection of lazy eye in younger children is difficult because children cannot express very well. Only an observant parent can detect the problem of the lazy eye in their child and it has to be corrected as early as possible.More Articles :
