Patients undertaking peritoneal dialysis can be a little more relaxed in their diet plan in comparison to those going through hemodialysis. The protein consumption needs to be high as in the previous case but in this form of treatment; potassium, sodium and fluids can also be taken in moderate levels. However, the intake of phosphorus is to be restricted.
As a general rule, any patient suffering from renal failure needs to slash his or her intake of calories. The solution utilized in the course of the dialysis is rich in dextrose, which ends up adding five hundred calories to the body during each procedure. Therefore, the patient has little scope for further accumulation of calories to one’s body weight.
